The Town Clerk is Responsible for:
- Attending Town Board meetings and keeping a complete and accurate record of the proceedings
- Preparing minutes of the Town Board meetings and keeping them in Minute Books
- Having custody of all Records, Books, and Papers of the Town
- Retaining an Ordinance Book
- Recording all Local Laws
- Procuring and maintaining Signboard and Post Legal Notices
- Administering Oaths of Office to all Officers and Employees of the Town
- Issuing Dog Licenses, Marriage Licenses, Peddlers and Solicitors Licenses, Games of Chance and Bell Jar Licenses, Handicap Parking Permits, Sales of Zoning and other Ordinances
- Taking fees for building permits, copies of records, Highway Agreements, and other permits
- Receiving fees collected by other offices
- Legal Notices regarding Bids, Public Hearings, etc.
- Being the Town's Freedom of Information Officer
(NOTE: The Town of Dickinson Clerk's Office is no longer issuing Hunting/Fishing Licenses. You may obtain licenses at these area locations: Town of Chenango, Dick's Sporting Goods or
online.)
To obtain a marriage license at the Town of Dickinson call 723-9401 to arrange an appointment. Please allow 30-45 minutes to process a marriage license application.
APPLICANTS MUST PRESENT:
- (Proof of age) CERTIFIED BIRTH CERTIFICATE
- (Proof of identity) CURRENT DRIVER’S LICENSE, CURRENT PASSPORT, OR CURRENT EMPLOYMENT PHOTO IDENTIFICATION.
- SOCIAL SECURITY CARD
- APPLICANTS MUST SUPPLY CERTIFIED COPIES OF ALL DIVORCE RECORDS, AND/OR SPOUSAL DEATH CERTIFICATE
- FEE IS $40.00
- There is a 24 hour waiting period from the time you apply for the license until you may be married.
- License is valid for 60 days, beginning the day after it is issued.
- If both applicants are 18 years of age or older, no consents are required. If either applicant is between the ages of 16 or 17 years, both parents must sign consent form.
- If parents are divorced, the parent with sole custody may sign affidavit upon presenting proof of custody.
- If either applicant is between the ages of 14 or 15 years, there must be a Family Court Order, signed by a judge.
- It is illegal for anyone under 14 years of age to marry in New York State.
- The application must be signed by both applicants in the presence of the town clerk.

If you are searching for a copy of your marriage certificate - Marriage Certificates are filed in the same municipality that you purchased your marriage license. If you can’t locate your birth or marriage certificate in a local municipality, you can call the New York State Department of Health at 1-855-322-1022.
